The battery that comes with the model is a 1S 3.7V 500 mAh LiPo battery and provides about 10 minutes of battery life. The battery does take about 45 minutes to charge so you might want to get yourself a couple extra batteries so that you can fly for longer periods of time. They are pretty cheap and provide for much more fun! And dont worry about crashing as long as you are over grass you can pretty much crash it as much as you want. The carbon fiber spars are strong and the plastic canopy is durable. It is so light that there is not a lot of momentum built up in a crash so there is not a lot of damage that can occur. But if you DO happen to break something there are in depth tutorials online on how to repair your little quadcopter. It also comes with spare propellers and you can buy replacement parts online.
These include high-power flight battery a powerful mobile app for Android devices or iOS GPS navigation including auto takeoffs and auto landings and a built-in safety database which contains a list of no-fly zones. DJI has put some restriction measures in place to prevent your device from being able to operate within a 15 miles radius of the White House. Also included in this no-fly zone are Arlington Silver Spring Prince Georges County Montgomery County and Falls Church. Your engine is automatically shut off once in this zone even though DJI does not warn you of this issue before making your purchase. However once you are out of the 15 miles radius your drone should work perfectly fine.
The remote controller comes with a few buttons that can be pressed to adjust flight modes. Basically there are two flight modes available with any quadcopter: manual and auto. In manual mode when you tilt the copter using the roll control and then let go of the stick the copter will not return to its initial position. Instead it will stay tilted to the angle where you left the stick. On the other hand in auto flight mode it auto-levels itself back to its original stance once the sticks are centered. Make sure you practice and experiment with your copter to learn all the controls separately before moving on to the next section. If youre not familiar with the controls you will never be able to fly a quadcopter in peace. It will either move too fast or go upwards and hit the ceiling. Also see how slowly you need to throttle in order to take the machine off the ground safely and expertly.
So because it is so difficult to learn how to fly a quadcopter I will always recommend that a beginner buy a small quadcopter toy before dropping $450 on a DJI Phantom for example. There are a couple good little quadcopter toys out there but my favorite is the Syma X1 Quadcopter. It comes in a few different configurations you can get a space ship bumblebee or UFO. It comes with everything you need to fly for just about $30. That includes a 2.4 GHz transmitter so you can fly indoors and outdoors with a pretty good range. It also means that you can fly more than a couple of these guys around. It can also do flips in any direction at the touch of a button! One important thing to note is how to calibrate it. A lot of people think that their quadcopter is broken because after they plug in the battery and try to fly it it will always veer off in one direction. This is because when they plugged it in it wasnt on level ground when it calibrated the gyros. So what the flight controller thinks is level really isnt level. So what you have to do is plug in the battery then immediately place it on a flat surface so it can calibrate correctly. Then you are ready to go!
