Carpet in high traffic areas of the home such as halls and stairways can be problematic if you dont make the right choices. A tough hard wearing carpet is a must. When youre buying a carpet the hard wearing ones will be clearly marked but if in doubt ask your retailer. Even if youre buying your carpets online dont forget that you can still ask questions. Any good online retailer will soon reply to your emails and will answer your phone calls promptly. You should also consider colour in these high traffic areas. You may have to compromise for the sake of longevity. You may have your heart set on a pale cream hall carpet to brighten up your dingy entrance way but in reality youll be spending so much time trying to keep it clean that youll probably wish youd gone for something a little darker. Halls get a lot of wear and tear especially if you have a large family. A dark or mid coloured carpet with a pattern is the best for not showing the dirt.
Another added advantage you will get with this is that it will provide extra cushioning to your carpet by adding mass. So now your guests will feel the plush and can even walk around bare feet. In fact one can even use low seating around and sit on the carpets with some extra cushions and pillows. Underlay for carpets absorbs sound heat and moisture and cushions the impact of your guests who walk all over your carpet every day thus increasing its lifespan. Underlays are made of lots of different type of materials including waffle rubber. It is the most common material used and has multiple thicknesses and weights. It all depends upon your choice of carpets. Try not to go for a heavy underlay because the thickest underlay does not always guarantee you the highest quality. The most expensive waffle rubber underlay is the flat rubber type.
The last major issue with corridor carpets that is often seen is when wall to wall carpet is replaced by new carpet tiles. Carpet tiles are installed with a pressure sensitive adhesive. This adhesive must be applied to a clean concrete surface free of all contaminants including adhesive from previous carpet installations. If pressure sensitive adhesive is applied over the old carpet adhesive then it mixes in with it moisture is trapped and as the moisture eventually tries to escape around the edges of the carpet tiles and lift or the new adhesive emulsifies. Again this issue is usually blamed on the manufacturer and the carpet supplier will often try and gluedown the lifting edges using adhesive that they should not be using in attempt to keep the lifting edges down on the concrete.
Dont forget too to take into account where the carpets meet. You might love a pink carpet in your bedroom and a red carpet in the hallway but the colour clash where the two meet could be a little overwhelming! Also take into account the size of a room when youre considering your new carpet. A small room will look smaller with a dark carpet a pale carpet will open it up and make it seem more light and airy. A dark hallway will also seem lighter with a pale carpet. At the other end of the spectrum a large room could well feel cosier if you have a darker carpet. If youre familiar with an art package on the computer it could be advantageous to take some photos of each room and change the colour of the carpet digitally to see what it looks like. It might just prevent you from making a costly mistake.
