Carpet in high traffic areas of the home such as halls and stairways can be problematic if you dont make the right choices. A tough hard wearing carpet is a must. When youre buying a carpet the hard wearing ones will be clearly marked but if in doubt ask your retailer. Even if youre buying your carpets online dont forget that you can still ask questions. Any good online retailer will soon reply to your emails and will answer your phone calls promptly. You should also consider colour in these high traffic areas. You may have to compromise for the sake of longevity. You may have your heart set on a pale cream hall carpet to brighten up your dingy entrance way but in reality youll be spending so much time trying to keep it clean that youll probably wish youd gone for something a little darker. Halls get a lot of wear and tear especially if you have a large family. A dark or mid coloured carpet with a pattern is the best for not showing the dirt.
Carpeting has had a long and storied history that dates all the way back to the 3rd millennium BC nearly 4000 years ago. Found in Siberia the oldest surviving carpet is thought to have been created in the 5th century BC. Traditionally carpets were handmade composed of thousands of knots intricately woven together to form beautiful works of art too valuable to put on the floor and walk on. Sadly carpet technology remained virtually unchanged for thousands of years. The 1930s changed the carpet industry forever. A few entrepreneurs figured out a method of using a machine to make carpets and almost overnight they were an item that the emerging middle-class could splurge on. It wasnt until the late 1950s with the introduction of synthetic fibers that wall-to-wall carpeting in homes become common-place.
In case plain water has failed to do the trick dilute a small amount of mild bleach in water together with a small amount of liquid detergent (go for bleach mixtures that can be used on colored fabrics and test in an inconspicuous area such as inside a closet-DO NOT USE BLEACH ON NYLON OR WOOL RUGS). This mixture will help remove the remaining stubborn stains. But if the carpet stain is not entirely removed by the said solution go for a mild chemical stain remover for carpets. You have to choose the milder solution because we all know how sensitive expensive carpet fibers are we want the stain removed but we do not want our carpets damaged.
This type of deep pile carpet is ideally suited to bedrooms where they dont get a lot of footfall. However bear in mind that the deep pile can be harder to keep clean so it might not be the best choice if you have pets. Dirty paws and loose fur dont mix well with a deep pile carpet! For childrens bedrooms you are probably better off picking something a little more hard wearing as children are more likely to be making more use of the bedroom floor than adults as its the perfect space for playing. A patterned carpet will not show the dirt as much as a plain one and there are some brilliant carpets available made especially for childrens rooms. Theyre tough enough to stand up to the most boisterous games with designs that appeal to children from tiny tots right through to teenagers.
